The digital world has been shaken by a shocking discovery: a massive data leak involving 16 billion accounts, originating from companies such as Apple, Facebook, and Google, has surfaced on the dark web. The leaked data includes usernames, passwords, email addresses, and sometimes other personal information. Although the tech giants involved have (so far) not confirmed any large-scale system breaches, it is clear that the leaked information is the result of decades of smaller and larger breaches that have now been compiled into one enormous collection.
This incident painfully highlights that password hygiene — the proper and secure handling of passwords — is still severely underestimated. But it’s not the only one: organizations also often overlook basic patch management, multi-factor authentication, network segmentation, and employee training, all of which are critical in preventing breaches.
Privatum* can play a crucial role in helping organizations not only mitigate the consequences of breaches but also prevent them.
