The First-Ever Privacy Café in Limburg

2–3 minutes

On October 3rd, we’re excited to open our doors at our headquarters in Hasselt for the very first Privacy Café held in Limburg, co-hosted with the Data Protection Institute. It promises to be an evening filled with insightful discussions, expert speakers, and the chance to connect with like-minded professionals over privacy, security, and innovation.

The topics for this Privacy Café:

  • Crypto Evolution and Quantum Computing and Their Impact on Security, by Bart Preneel.
  • AI-policy and Practice at VRT, by Erwin Maussen.

The Guest Speakers

We’re thrilled to welcome two distinguished guest speakers: Bart Preneel from KU Leuven and Erwin Maussen from VRT.

These industry leaders will dive into some of today’s most crucial topics, including quantum computing’s impact on security and how AI is shaping policies at the VRT, a national broadcaster in the Flemish Region.

Bart Preneel: Crypto Evolution and Quantum Computing and Their Impact on Security

What do recent evolutions, such as the rise of quantum computing, mean for the future of encryption and privacy?

Professor Bart Preneel, leading expert and head of COSIC research group at KU Leuven.

Professor Bart Preneel, a leading expert and head of the COSIC research group at KU Leuven, takes a closer look at this pressing question. With his extensive experience and his role as an advisor to industry and government on cybersecurity and privacy, he offers an illuminating overview of current developments. Can techniques such as homomorphic encryption, post-quantum cryptography, and differential privacy adequately protect our (personal) data today? Should DPOs and CISOs already be thinking about new security advice and strategies, taking these evolutions into account?

Erwin Maussen: AI-policy and Practice at VRT

With Erwin Maussen, we will dive into the AI-policy and practice at VRT,  the national public service broadcaster for the Flemish Community of Belgium.

In our upcoming session, we explore the organisation and policies around AI at VRT, with a special focus on practical implementations. This inspiring presentation will be delivered by Erwin Maussen, whom we previously welcomed to our Privacy Café as VRT’s DPO. Erwin shares his extensive experience in coordinating and drafting AI policies, as well as the practical guidelines involved. He offers a valuable perspective on how VRT approaches this innovative technology. This session is essential for AI experts, DPOs, CISOs and other professionals who carry similar responsibilities within their organisations.

Erwin Maussen - Compliance & Data Protection Officer, VRT Belgium.
